GO GREEN BIKE TOUR

What:    7 different road and mountain bike rides that showcase the trails and
               countryside of northeast PA
When:   Saturday, October 2, 2010
Where:  Lackawanna State Park, northeastern PA
Time:     Riding starts between 8-10am at your leisure
Age:       Open to all ages and skill levels
Cost:     $35 per rider, includes food & beverages post-ride, well-marked routes
                with maps & cue sheets for each rider, automatic entry in  
                the huge raffle and other bonuses for the first 150 registrants!
Why:      All proceeds benefit the Countryside Conservancy in
                KEEPING GREEN SPACES GREEN!!

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

The Lackawanna State Park in Dalton, Pennsylvania is the beginning and end point for the event. From Interstate 81, take Exit 199 Scott. Continue on Route 524 West 3 miles to a stop sign. Make a right onto Route 407 North for .4 miles. Make a left into Lackawanna State Park. Coming via U.S. Routes 6&11, take Route 438 east approximately 3 miles to Route 407, then travel south to entrance of Lackawanna State Park on right.

 

CAMPING & PARK INFO

Overview:
The 1,411-acre Lackawanna State Park is in northeastern Pennsylvania, ten miles north of Scranton. The 198-acre Lackawanna Lake is the centerpiece of this beautiful, modern recreational facility, which also has hiking, camping and picnicking.

Camping:
The campground is within walking distance of the lake and swimming area. The campground offers various types of campsites for tents and trailers, 61 sites with electric hookups 40-50 amp., modern centralized washhouses providing hot showers and restrooms, and even yurts!

Recreational Opportunities:
Hiking - Trail Biking - Horseback Riding - Picnicking - Swimming - Boating - Fishing - Hunting - Cross-country Skiing - Sledding - Ice Fishing - Ice Skating - Organized Group Tenting - Camping

 

RIDE DESCRIPTIONS

ROAD BIKE RIDES:

1.     22 mile* route - This ride will explore the country roads surrounding Lackawanna State Park and will take you through parts of Fleetville, La Plume, Dalton and Craig before looping you back to Lackawanna State Park.

2.      29 mile* route - This longer ride will take you north out of the park up to Hop Bottom and then down past the historic Nicholson Bridge and through Factoryville before ending back at Lackawanna State Park.

3.      Metric century* route (~62 miles) - This challenging and scenic ride winds through the rural landscape of Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties. Riders can expect plenty of elevation changes as they cruise through Nicholson, Hop Bottom, Brooklyn, Dimock and other towns in the Endless Mountains.

*Road routes and mileage may be slightly altered by the day of the ride to avoid construction, traffic or other unforeseen activities. All routes will be clearly marked and riders will receive detailed maps and cue sheets.

 MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDES:

1.   Beginners; never-evers; families with kids.  Includes many choices with level to slightly/moderately steep low-travel, public, dirt and partially-paved roads.  Routes are out and back with a choice of one loop ride. Possibility to add on distances.

2.   Beginner/Intermediate.  Level to moderately steep, paved and dirt public roads with an option for a beginner technical track within the state park.

3.   Intermediate.  Moderately steep/steep mostly dirt public roads with options for two medium technical tracks.

4.   Advanced.  Technical trails at the mid to difficult range within the state park.
